Colin Rosenkowitz was born in

Mossel Bay

on South Africa’s southern cape in 1934, the youngest child of a tailor, Chevel, and his wife, Rebecca. His parents had fled Europe to the African continent during Russia’s anti-Jewish rioting.

When Colin was six his mother died leaving Chevel with four children. It was the height of World War II, and the conflict was pulling men and business away from the region. 

Unable to provide for his family, Chevel sent Colin and his two sisters to the

Arcadia Jewish Children’s Home

in Johannesburg, more than one thousand kilometres north of their home in Mossel Bay. 

“I used to see a lot of my sisters, which was a big help,” Mr Rosenkowitz said.

“My dad would visit us every Sunday, he brought a bag of fruit and sweets that my sisters and I would divide up.

The Rosenkowitz Sextuplets (born January 11, 1974 in South Africa) were the first known set of sextuplets to survive infancy.

Biography

Born to Susan Wilson at Mowbray Maternity Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa,[1][2] the sextuplets are:

  • David Peter (2.020 kg)
  • Grant Vincent (1.880 kg)
  • Jason Solomon (2.080 kg)
  • Emma Louise (1.820 kg)
  • Nicolette Anne (1.260 kg)
  • Elizabeth Rebecca (1.980 kg)

The births quickly drew international attention as the first known set of sextuplets to survive infancy.[1][3] Born about four weeks early,[3] their total birthweight was 24 lb 4 oz (11.0 kg), with the individual birthweights ranging from 2 lb 12oz (Nicolette) to 4 lb 9oz (Jason)

Mother Susan Wilson is a native Briton who emigrated to South Africa in 1966. She divorced father Colin in 1989.[4]

As of 2009, David was living in Australia, Nicolette in Cape Town(SA), Jason in London(UK), Emma in London(UK), Grant in Cape Town(SA) and Elizabeth in Kent(UK)].[5]

Born to Susan Wilson at Mowbray Maternity Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa the sextuplets were the first sextuplets to survive infancy.

They were born about four weeks early at 34 weeks,  with the individual birth weights ranging from 1.1 to 2kg's, totalling 11kgs for all six.

Mother Susan Wilson was British, emigrated to South Africa in 1967. Colin and Susan got divorced in 1989 and apparently fell with her kids soccer coach (http://www.quintland.com/rosenkowitz/).  Colin got custody- quoting him from the Sunday times interview 2004  "It was very tough. I don't know how I did it. I used to pray 10 times a day; it was a nightmare."

"When we heard the news, my wife fainted and I got a runny stomach," he said. "When we told our maid, she ran away."

"David works in IT and Jason has an IT career in London. Nicky, a make-up artist, lives in New York, while Liz and Emma both live in London. Liz works in the fashion industry and Emma is a hairstylist and make-up artist.
