In October, 1996, Simón Silva, a well known Latino artist, designated the California Ethnic and Multicultural Archives as the permanent repository for his personal papers, including artwork and professional files.

Simón Silva was born in 1961 in Mexicali, Mexico. The next year, his family emigrated to the United States and settled in Holtville, an agricultural town in California's Imperial Valley. One of eleven children, Silva spent much of his young life as a migrant farm worker. This experience, says Silva, "instilled in me the value of an education," as well as inspiring much of his artwork.

Silva attended Imperial Valley College, receiving an A.A. degree in Art, and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he received his BFA in Illustration.

Simone Silva (15 August 1928 – 30 November 1957) was an Egyptian-born French film actress who appeared in a handful of British B-movies during the 1950s. Silva, who was once quoted as saying she would "do anything" to get in the newspapers, was known however less for her acting than for her voluptuous figure and publicity-seeking activities. She briefly made global headlines following a notorious incident at the 1954 Cannes Film Festival where she posed topless with Robert Mitchum for photographers, causing a sensation when the photographs were flashed around the world.

Simone was found dead in her apartment in Mayfair, London, England, United Kingdom on November 30, 1957, due to a stroke from following a harsh diet for a long time, at the age of 29 years.
