As the judge on the number one-rated new television show Divorce Court, Mablean Ephriam, is by turns tough, compassionate, and very funny. It would certainly require a sense of humor to deal with the divorcing couples on her show, who scream, cry, swear, insult each other, and reveal the most intimate secrets of their failed marriages—all while the cameras are rolling.

Judge Mablean Ephriam

With over twenty years of experience behind her as a trial attorney and mediator, Judge Ephriam brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the bench of Divorce Court. Divorce Court features real people, real conflict and powerful human drama in a compelling true-life courtroom setting where litigants abide by Judge Ephriam’s legally-binding decisions.

Judge Ephriam began her legal career as a correctional officer at the Women’s Division of the federal Bureau of Prisons, Terminal Island. To pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer, she accepted a job as a legal secretary while attending law school.

After five years as a Deputy City Attorney in Los Angeles, where she served as Domestic Violence Coordinator for spousal, parent and child abuse, she went into private practice emphasizing family law, personal injury and probate. She also serves as a Hearing Examiner for the City of Los Angeles, Civil Service Commission.

Mablean Ephriam, the ninth of ten children born to Robert T. and Mable Ephriam, in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, is now known throughout the world as Judge Mablean, since her seven year run as the judge on the FOX television show, Divorce Court. She returns to television as the judge in Justice with Judge Mablean

Mablean graduated from Whittier College School of Law in 1978, earning her Juris Doctor degree. Judge Mablean began her law career as a prosecutor in the Criminal Division of the Office of the City Attorney, Los Angeles in November, 1978. In July, 1982, she opened her own practice with a law school classmate.  Her early practice emphasized criminal defense, personal injury and family law.  She found her niche in family law. Her experience and skills gained as a trial attorney while a prosecutor, quickly earned her respect as a trial lawyer in family law court.
