Frankie Muniz is taking a break from acting to be a professional race car driver.

The 20-year-old actor recently wrapped up the final episode of Fox TV's "Malcolm in the Middle" and is turning his attention to driving race cars for at least the next two years.

Muniz says he'll race this season for Jensen Motorsport in Formula BMW and hopes to move up to the Atlantic Series, the steppingstone to Champ Car, in 2007.

"I'm going to make it my full-time deal right now because you kind of have to," he told The Associated Press recently. "You can't really juggle both (acting and racing) because, if you do, you just don't get enough time in the car. And I really love racing and this is what I want to do right now and for the next two years, and potentially more.

Muniz came to prominence in the 2000s playing the title character of the Fox sitcom Malcolm in the Middle (2000–2006), for which he was nominated for an Emmy and two Golden Globe Awards. He also worked in the films Big Fat Liar (2002), Deuces Wild (2002), Agent Cody Banks (2003), and Racing Stripes (2005). At the height of his fame in 2003, Muniz was considered one of the most popular child actors and "one of Hollywood's most bankable teens".^[2]
