Biography – about the artist.

Born in 2006 in Wonju, South Korea, cellist Jaemin Han came to international attention in May 2021 when he was awarded the Grand Prix of the George Enescu International Competition as the youngest prize winner in its history. Further prizes at the Geneva International Music Competition and ISANGYUN Competition followed, establishing him as one of the most exceptional young soloists to emerge in recent years.

Han has performed with numerous renowned orchestras, including the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, the Rotterdam and Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestras, Athens State Orchestra, Stavanger Symfoniorkester and Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, and Filarmonica George Enescu. Under the baton of conductors such as Jaap van Zweden, Myung-Whun Chung, Gustavo Gimeno, Andris Poga, Alexandre Bloch, Pietari Inkinen, and Shi-Yeon Sung, Han performs mainstays of the cello repertoire by Shostakovich, Dvořák, Tchaikovsky, and Haydn, alongside concertos by Isang Yun, Friedrich Gulda, and George Enescu.

SPO Biography

The SPO presents a wide range of repertoire from Mozart to Messiaen and continues to break box office records by playing for largely sold out audiences. With distinguished guest conductors and soloists, the SPO continues to take the initiative in shaping the Korean classical music scene.

The SPO has extended its scope to an international scale starting in 2007 with Thailand, China, Japan, then to Carnegie Hall in New York and the United Nations Headquarters as an active cultural diplomatic envoy. Since 2010, the SPO has been on international tours to Europe and North America. Myung-whun Chung (Korean: 정명훈; born 22 January 1953) is a South Korean conductor and pianist.

Career

Performer

Chung studied piano with Maria Curcio[1] and won joint second-prize in the 1974 International Tchaikovsky Competition. He performed in the Chung Trio with his sisters, violinist Kyung-wha Chung and cellist Myung-wha Chung.[2]

Conducting and musical direction

Chung studied conducting at the Mannes College of Music and the Juilliard School. He has conducted virtually all the prominent European and American orchestras, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Chicago Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic, among others.
