About Shoshana

When Shoshana was seven years old, a door-to-door salesman for a local music studio knocked on her front door. Her parents signed her up for music lessons, starting her first on the accordion then adding piano lessons soon after. Classically trained, Shoshana discovered ragtime while in high school when the movie “The Sting” came out and was instantly hooked. She started her professional music career at the age of 17 playing honky-tonk/ragtime piano at Shakey’s Pizza Parlors and the following year was hired by Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California as a ragtime pianist in their new Roaring 20’s section.

Throughout the years, Shoshana has played different genres of music at different venues. She has played ragtime at The Old Town Mall in Torrance California, accompanied the melodramas at The Bird Cage Theatre in Knott’s Berry Farm, served as piano accompanist for many musical productions and played contemporary solo piano at The Galleria at South Bay in Redondo Beach, California.

About Us

Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss is the founder and creative director of Shoshanna, her eponymous collection which debuted in stores in November 1998. Gruss revolutionized dress departments nationwide with the launch of her first collection. Her dedication to fitting and flattering the female body while indulging in whimsical details were a refreshing change from the contemporary offerings of  the moment. Gruss continued to make waves in the marketplace with the launch of her swimwear collection in the Spring of 2001. She was the first to pioneer a change in the swimwear industry by selling tops          and bottoms as separates with lingerie inspired sizing.

Gruss was born and raised in Manhattan where she honed her personal aesthetic and developed her eye for the distinctive details that have come to epitomize her collection. After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles with degrees in History and Art History, Gruss eschewed from the prescribed career path and chose to explore her interests in fashion at the ground level, working at a lingerie factory

Shoshanna Weinberger

Biography

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, raised in Montclair, NJ, Weinberger received her MFA from Yale University School of Art, 2003 and BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 1995. Weinberger’s studio practice is rooted in an exploration of her Caribbean-American lineage. She considers herself a visual anthropologist, cataloging and surveying these experiences that ultimately question notions of identity through ongoing serial works that result in drawings, collage and sculptural installations. Exhibiting over two decades, highlights include: National Gallery of Jamaica; The Newark Museum of Art; Bronx Museum; Wave Hill; Spertus Museum, Chicago; and NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale.
