Malladi Suribabu

Malladi Suribabu (born 1 May 1945) is an Indian Carnatic vocalist and musician from Vijayawada, India.[1][2][3] He was conferred with Kala Ratna, a civilian honor by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 2013[4] and TTK Award by Madras Music Academy in 2014.[5] He is a disciple of Voleti Venkateshwarulu, Sripada Pinakapani and Nedunuri Krishnamurthy.[1][6]
Early life
Suribabu was born on 1 May 1945 in Dubacherla, a village in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, in then British India. He is the father of vocalist duo Malladi Brothers.[7] and vocalist Malladi Vasavi.[8]
His father developed a taste for the traditional way of singing and being a music analyzer and enthusiast, was keen to pass on tradition to his children. Suribabu has developed an aptitude for music from his father and at the age of 9 years, he could easily reproduce songs with perfection.[9]

It is difficult to believe that an epoch making revolution in the manner in which Carnatic music was practised in Andhra Pradesh came about through the dedicated efforts of one who was not even a professional musician. This legendary person was Dr. Sripada Pinakapani. He was an eminent doctor by vocation but music was his passion. Almost entirely self taught in the subtle intricacies and nuances of Carnatic music, he fell in love with the “Tanjavur bani” of Tamil Nadu and decided to import and propagate it in his own Andhra Pradesh. He had no guru to guide him in his mission but commenced the journey on his own, deciding to absorb whatever he listened to and found good from the stalwarts of Tamil Nadu. The Malladi Brothers, Malladi Sreeramprasad (b. June 12, 1971) and Malladi Ravikumar (b. April 21, 1973), are a Carnatic musicvocalistduo. They started their music education under Malladi Srirammurthy and Malladi Suri Babu, their grandfather and father respectively. Subsequently, they studied under Sripada Pinakapani, Nedunuri Krishnamurthy and Voleti Venkatesvarulu.[1]
Malladi Brothers possess a large repertoire of Carnatic compositions and possess vibrant and powerful voices. Both excel in presenting Alapanas and Thyagaraja kritis. They try to popularize rare ragas and compositions to increase interest in the art form.[2]
They have traveled extensively in India and abroad.[citation needed]
