Who was H. A. Ironside?
Answer
Henry (Harry) Allan Ironside (1876—1951), better known as H. A. Ironside, was a Canadian-American Bible expositor, pastor, theologian, and author. During his first and only tenure as a pastor, serving at the Moody Memorial Church in Chicago from 1930 to 1948, his distinction as a fundamentalistpreacher spread far and wide. H. A. Ironside was born in Toronto, Canada, to Scottish immigrant parents John and Sophia Ironside. They were both active in the Plymouth Brethrenmovement. His father died of typhoid fever when Harry was not quite two years old, but he left behind a strong legacy as a soul-winning lay minister. When approached and urged to write a biographical sketch, Dr. Ironside protested emphatically in a spirit of true humility. Constant pressure, however, prevailed with the result that statistical information was forthcoming and we trust the Lord will bless the outcome.

Ironside was an avid dispensationalist and premillennialist. These positions came through clearly in his writings and in his teaching ministry. Around 1943, however, rumors began to arise that Ironside claimed dispensationalism and the pretribulational rapture position was "full of holes."
