The Palavar Series presented a public lecture on Africa and Black Diasporic Engagements featuring renowned Dr. PLO Lumumba. The event took place from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Thursday, October 18, 2018, in the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library at Howard University. The public lecture, “On the Role of Africa and the Black Diaspora in International Affairs” was hosted by Dr. J. Jarpa Dawuni of the Political Science Department and Dr. Msia Kibona Clark of the African Studies Department.
Dr. Mohamed Saliou Camara, Chair of the African Studies department, provided the welcome address. Next, Ayana Gregory, daughter of the late Dick Gregory, gifted the audience with an inspiring and interactive opening song, reminding the audience that, “We are the ones that we have been waiting for for…. We are qualified.” Dr. Dawuni then gave a brief introduction of Dr. Lumumba, the renown Kenyan lawyer, Pan-Africanist and public speaker, calling him “a great son of Kenya, greater son of Africa, and an even greater Pan-Africanist.”

Prof. PLO Lumumba whose full name is Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba was born on 17th July 1962 and raised in Usenge, a little village at the Lake Victoria KENYA. Named after an African hero of that time, Patrice Emery Lumumba, he was actually already predicted for great works and visions for Africa right from birth.
He is an Advocate of the High Courts of Kenya and Tanzania and Law Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Nairobi and the Director of The Kenya School of Laws since the year 2014. He is one of the Trustees and the Executive Director of the African Institute of Leaders and Leadership, Nairobi, Kenya. He received his LL.b and LL.M degrees in Law at the University of Nairobi, followed by a PhD in the Laws of the Sea at the University of Ghent in Belgium.

- باتريك لوش أوتينو لومومبا (ولد في 17 يوليو 1962)، مواطن كيني شغل منصب مدير في الفترة من سبتمبر 2010 إلى أغسطس 2011. كما شغل منصب مدير الكلية الكينية للقانون في عام 2014. يحمل لومومبا، وهو محامي بليغ، شهادة الدكتوراه في قوانين البحار من جامعة غنت في بلجيكا. كما أنه مناصر قوي للوحدة الأفريقية وألقى العديد من الخطب القوية بشأن الحلول الأفريقية للمشاكل الأفريقية. وهو معجب بباتريس لومومبا وتوماس سانكارا، الزعيمان الثوريان الراحلان في جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية وبوركينا فاسو، على التوالي. ولقد اشار إليهما في خطبه عدة مرات واستشهد باحاديثهما. وأيضًا يُذكر لومومبا بخطابه المفعم بالمشاعر والحيوية في المؤتمر الثالث لمكافحة الفساد في أوغندا. يشار إلى أن مؤسسة باف أنساه، بالإنجليزية (PAV Ansah) استضافت لومومبا للتحدث في منتدى «بافا 2015 بشأن الحكم الرشيد، أفريقيا إلى أين؟»، وذلك في 28 أغسطس 2015. أعرب لومومبا خلال منتدى بافا 2015، عن قلقه البالغ إزاء أزمات الطاقة التي سمح القادة الأفارقة بوصولها إلى هذه المرحلة المدمرة. كما تحدث عن قضية فرار الشباب الأفارقة من القارة. وألقى باللائمة على المصاعب الاقتصادية وسوء الحكم. شجع لومومبا القادة ال
