Miriam O’Reilly has been the victim of multiple cases of mistaken identity since liberating her hair, and herself, from fierce beetle-black dye to delicate natural milky white; mainly from her husband of 30-odd years, Mark.
In the first week of her transformation, she would be woken by panicky yelps from the other side of the marital bed, as her husband would roll over and jump in alarm confronted by the sight on the neighbouring pillow of an alien woman’s shorn scalp.
O’Reilly, never a woman for half measures, had gone to her hairdresser in Birmingham saying she wanted all the black dye stripped out in one fell swoop, and her hair cut exceedingly short.

Miriam O'Reilly left school at 17 with a burning ambition to become a journalist. While applying for newspaper apprenticeships she worked at several jobs, including being a runner on the children's TV programme TISWAS.
She eventually talked the editor of the Kidderminster Times in Worcestershire into taking her on as a trainee reporter. After qualifying she joined BBC Radio WM in Birmingham as a news producer.
Over the next 10 years Miriam worked across the BBC as a reporter and producer in news and current affairs including Panorama, and BBC Education co-presenting The Parent Programme. After her second child was born she decided to leave and be a full-time mum.
When she turned 40, Miriam returned to the BBC. During the last seven years she has presented Farming Today, Costing the Earth, File on 4 and BBC 1's Countryfile programme for which she has won the Foreign Press, Royal Television Society and British Environment Media Awards.

Early life
The daughter of an Irish farmer who came to England in the 1950s,[1] O'Reilly left school aged seventeen, keen to be a journalist.
Journalism and broadcasting career
She applied for newspaper apprenticeships while working several jobs, including work on the children's television programme Tiswas.[2] She then worked for the BBC on the Radio 4 programmes Farming Today,Costing the Earth and Woman's Hour. She also worked as a television presenter on Countryfile until 2009. During her time at the BBC, O'Reilly won the Foreign Press, Royal Television Society and British Environment Media awards.[2] O'Reilly was also well known as a co-presenter on the BBC's Midlands Today programme, alongside longtime regulars Kay Alexander and Sue Beardsmore.
